We are told that the fishing is good where we are. Built of heavy wood and about 60′ long and in active trade. And a cool looking local built coastal trader came to anchor as well. ![]() It emphasizes connection, not the collection. Zettelkasten, German for “slip box,” is a tool for thinking, writing, and connecting thoughts across disciplines. The primary components of this system are Zettelkasten, automation tools, and a scalable learning process. This article is guidance for what works well for me after four months of research and experimentation. This approach is exponential because each idea can belong to multiple topics and classes. Get the atomic level (i.e., the lowest-level possible) ideas down pat and then connect topics and classes. What I propose in this system works the other way-the ideas matter the most. This approach is linear because each idea belongs to one topic and class. And we are incentivized to learn this information primarily for exams, without much incentive to retain it for future classes. We end the day with a binder with isolated topics and ideas for each class. ![]() But then the bell rings, and you can guess where this ends. But then the bell rings, and we head to our next class. We start with a class and then learn topics and ideas. My biggest issue with learning is we approach it linearly. Looking back, I now know that I quickly became good at learning how to pass a test at the expense of long-term knowledge. Less so for building an excellent educational foundation. That experience was great for learning how to meet people and adapt to change. I wanted a system that generated exponential returns on prior knowledge.įor context, I lived in 18 places during my first 21 years. Over the past four months, I tore down my lifelong learning system to the studs and rebuilt it from the ground up with a focus on scale. ![]() Try to get that follower count up as high as you can before launch.įor our part, here are EN World's contact details. If you can afford it, maybe a Facebook ad (see below). Social media, contact RPG news sites (in advance, with cool previews they can share, not last minute emails when you have a week left in your campaign just asking them to help 'boost the signal' - it's probably too late then), reach out to podcasters. You need to be getting the word out every way you can. If it's any consolation, it gets easier as you do more Kickstarter campaigns, as your previous backers will often become fans. This is the hard bit, especially if you can't afford ads and don't have an existing following. If you have a bunch of campaigns and thousands of previous backers, I think it's worth it. You don't get the nifty stats, and it takes a little longer, but you don't have to spend the $99. Just go to every campaign you have run, and manually email the backers from each. There are other similar services, but Mailchimp is the one I've experience with. It costs a bit if you have more than a couple of thousand contacts, but it collects the email addresses on a nice landing page, gives you reports on how many people opened emails and how many clicked on links, and so on. If you want to set up a mailing list of your own, I've found Mailchimp to be useful. Plus your marketing won't prevent you running other projects. You can tailor the experience, present any information you need, and you end up with a useful mailing list of targeted people who have specifically asked you to email them about your project. I personally recommend you do this yourself rather that using Kickstarter's pre-launch page. If you have a long promotional period before your campaign and you anticipate running other Kickstarter campaigns during that period, you will have to use a different service. While a pre-launch page is a great way to generate interest in your project before launch, they won't let you launch any other campaigns while you have an active pre-launch page. I found out (the hard way!) that they consider a 'pre-launch page' to be an active campaign. Important note - Kickstarter only allows you to run one campaign at a time. But the Coming Soon page is a nice, easy way to do it with minimal effort on your part. And you can show a lot more information and previews on your own page. That gives you more control over the communications - a lot of people filter out emails from Kickstarter, and may not see the notifications. You can set up your own landing page, collect email addresses, etc. You don't have to use the Coming Soon page. This is what the Coming Soon page looks like: Note that only about 10%-20% of those will typically back the campaign (we had 18% on Mythological Figures, and I've heard of people getting higher than 20%), but it's good to have a starting core there. We had about 2,000 for Mythological Figures & Maleficent Monsters. You need to have that up early - a month or so before, if you can, and work on getting as many followers as possible waiting for launch. Kickstarter has a "Coming Soon" page for every not-yet-launched project. During the campaign itself promote, promote, promote, and when you feel you've promoted enough, promote some more.Consider Facebook ads if you can afford it or a promotional service if you can't.Reach out to TTRPG news outlets before launch and try to have something nice they can share (exclusive previews work wonders!).and a press release make it really easy for people to report on your project Create a press kit - some of your best images, page spreads, etc.Start working on a mailing list and/or the Kickstarter Coming Soon page.Start promoting your campaign before launch (I like a month). But there might be tips that even old hands can use. ![]() This introduction to promoting your Kickstarter is aimed at people running their first Kickstarter, who don't already have a following. We already have our Destination Image chosen, so now we need to select our Source Image. See what I mean? This dialog box needs some work.įortunately, even though the dialog box itself is confusing, what we're trying to do with it is not. They control the Source Image at the bottom, which you assign down in the Image Statistics section. Common sense might have you believing that since these options are clearly grouped in with the Destination Image section at the top, they have something to do with the Destination Image, but common sense would be wrong. The Match Color dialog box showing my "green.jpg" photo as the Destination Image.īelow the Destination Image's name is the Image Options section, containing options such as Luminance, Color Intensity, Fade, and Neutralize. My original image is named "green.jpg", and we can see its name listed beside the word "Target" at the top of the dialog box: Photoshop simply assigns whichever image you had selected when you chose the Match Color command from the Image Menu as your Destination Image, which is why I had you select your original image first. There's no way to actually set the Destination Image in the dialog box. The Destination Image is the image containing the colors you want to change. Let's just leave the bottom section alone for now and look at the top section, "Destination Image". But nope, it's called "Image Statistics". See, you were thinking the bottom section would be called "Source Image", right? I mean, that would make sense. The Match Color dialog box is divided into two main sections - Destination Image on top, and Image Statistics (say what?) on the bottom. I wish Adobe would redesign it but so far, as of Photoshop CS3, they haven't, so we'll just have to cut through the confusion to get to the simplicity underneath. But quite honestly, between you and me, something just isn't right about the Match Color dialog box. I think it's the greatest thing since crayons. This brings up Photoshop's rather large Match Color dialog box. With your original image selected, go up to the Image menu at the top of the screen, choose Adjustments, and then choose Match Color: For now, just make sure the original image is the one currently selected (in focus). The Match Color command is going to refer to this original image as the Destination Image, as if the colors from the second image will be taking a trip over to this one, while the second image (the one containing the color we need) will become the Source Image. Before we do though, we need to make sure that our original photo is the one that Photoshop is currently looking at (the technical term would be to bring the original photo into "focus"), so click anywhere inside the document window of the original image to select it. Now that we've selected the object in the first photo and selected a large area of color inside the object in the second photo, we can head over to the Match Color command. Step 4: Switch Back To The Original Image Selecting a large area of the shirt to include as many shades of the color as possible. Currently, my Layers palette is showing that my Background layer is the only layer I have: ![]() ![]() The Background layer contains our original image information and we don't want to lose it in case we need to fall back on it. Step 1: Duplicate The Background Layer In The Original Image Sometimes, it needs a little help, and as we'll see in a moment, this is one of those times. However, depending on the images you're using, Match Color doesn't always work perfectly on its own. Photoshop's Match Color command was created specifically for this type of task, although it does have plenty of other uses as well which we'll look at in other tutorials. Personally, I like the green color better, but hey, whatever the client wants, right?
